How it started
Ahmed Saeed began in October 2013 as an HR administrator at STX Heavy Industries, on EPCC projects at the Zubair oil field. The work was as practical as it was administrative: staffing crews, grievances, disciplinary process, and compliance with Iraqi labour law — the constraint that determines how a workforce can be built and run at all.
Then the scope widened. At Tatwir Al-Rumaila he ran administration, wrote the HR policy and handled logistics for projects servicing Zubair. At Sae-A STX Entech he moved from coordinating contracts across Zubair and West Qurna — budgets, procurement, payroll, tax compliance — to running four teams on Rumaila: HR, IT, procurement and accounting.
That is the point where “administration” stops being clerical work. When four functions depend on the same decision, administration becomes the operating system of the business.
Since August 2024 the direction has shifted. Ahmed leads business development at Raya Law Firm, an Ussus Group company, with regional expansion running into Jordan, Egypt and the UAE. He is reading law part-time at Al-Kunooze — the formal grounding for a side of the work he had already been applying for over a decade.
